The following videos were shot by Nexi Internet Television at the Depot Studios Edinburgh and edited by Mike Kearney. They are live updates of  the very first Mashup Session. The Mashup Session is an Edinburgh based collaborative music project in which two artists of contrasting styles come together in the studio to arrange, record, produce, mix, master and release a track, all within 24 hours. The Ka-tet teamed up with exquisite  singer-songwriter Donna Maciocia to record her hit, ‘You Can Leave The Light On’.

They are a dockamentary in two parts of the making of Philosophika, the second album by The Mike Kearney Ka-tet. The location is The Depot, Granton, Edinburgh. Recording between the 4th and 6th December 2010 amidst the heaviest downfall of snow Scotland has seen in half a century, Mike and the band go to work….

The following video was filmed by Mike Kearney and edited at Tristan Rose Records. It is a bonus follow-up to the two part Dockamentary ‘Making Redcords II’ above. It sees Mike hook up with Engineer Garry Boyle and Percussion wizard Calum ‘CMac’ MacIntyre at his Forrest Rd flat in January 2011. Making guest appearances on backing vocals are William Douglas and flatmates, Rossco Galloway and Donna Maciocia.

The following videos were shot by Ruth Barrie and her team and edited at Tristan Rose Records. Barney Strachan provided an ambient recording of the gig. The night was Wed 16th December 2010 and was put on by Gavin Duvet of Doctor Ruby’s fame and Mike Kearney at Edinburgh’s Jazz Bar. The shows were a stupendous success and much fun was had. Black Cat Groove is taken from debut album Leitmotif Man. Chaffinch and Keep Your Head Up will be released on the upcoming album, Philosophika.

MAKING RECORDS I

A short documentary, made on location, of the recording of ‘Leitmotif Man’, The Mike Kearney Ka-tet’s debut album. The session took place over four days in june 2007, up north just past Inverness at the abode of the legendary Andy Thorburn(The Loveboat Big Band).
